Watch it before you buy the next case
The manufacturer made a safety video. That is the whole argument.
When a product the size of a tuna tin needs its own instructional safety film, the hazard is the product. We link the film in full.
The largest maker of canned chafing fuel publishes a video on how to use it safely. It is well made and worth eight minutes of any catering manager's time. It covers lighting at arm's length, never refueling a lit can, keeping the flame away from tablecloths and hair, and extinguishing by covering, not blowing.
Read it backwards
Every instruction in that film is the mirror image of an injury the company has seen. Do not blow the flame out, because blown gel splatters. Do not lean over it, because the flame is hard to see. Do not top up a lit can, because that is how flash burns happen.
The training you now owe
If you buy the product, you inherit the film. Every server who touches a can should have watched it, and you should be able to prove they did. Most venues cannot.
The alternative needs no film
A water-activated pack is opened, placed and wetted. A cordless cell is charged and switched on. Neither has a wrong way to be extinguished, because neither is lit.
