Where there is no outlet and flame is banned

Film sets, festival crews and field kitchens

Production catering, festival crews, site canteens and sports touchlines all share one condition: no power at the table and no tolerance for an open flame.

Classic buffet sets on an outdoor terrace

A film unit eats on location. A festival crew eats behind the stage. A site canteen sits in a cabin. None of them has a socket where the food is served, and most have a fire officer who will not allow canned fuel near cable runs and fuel stores.

What the line looks like

Cells charged from the unit base or the generator compound, carried to the table and holding for the meal window. Water-activated packs for the last-minute add-on that turns up at the crew bus.

Why it matters

Crew catering is judged on hot food arriving hot, on time, wherever the unit is. The equipment that needs a socket or a match is the equipment that fails on location.
